Weird random thought, but has anyone else gone and bought a tool or piece of kit, be it drawing or anything else, that they thought would be an upgrade and found themselves just incapable of using? I ask because I apparently bought a Rotring Tikky pacer awhile back (and I say "apparently" because I don't remember doing so, but it was in the bottom of a drawer so I must have) and tried it out (again, I guess) tonight. Don't get me wrong, it's quite a nice thing. The materials feel good to touch and it's well put together. It's way nicer than the $1.00 pink plastic pacer I normally use. However, for the life of me, I can't get comfortable with it or make it do what I want it to.
I don't think it's size, the grip is only slightly smaller, or the extra weight: I draw just fine with the steel Parker Jotter ballpoint I have for work, and that's both smaller and heavier. I also don't think that it's that it's new and a bit different. Again, the Jotter I worked just fine with right out of the box, and it's hardly the first time I've switched pacers (the cheap ones tend to fall apart after awhile), but seriously, something just is not flying for me. Maybe I'm just tired, but it feels so unnatural it's almost comical.
I'm going back to my cheap pacer.
Anyway, out of curiosity: anyone else?

Too Awesome
This is just too awesome. Picture request from a mate, kanon147 on Twitter (open the journal entry to actually see the thing):
Farewell 2020...
...and good riddance. Well, what a s**t of a year. Between the same pandemic and general state-of-the-world related issues as everyone else, plus a somewhat personal run-in with cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma. 0/10 experience, do not recommend), that's a year I'd rather forget. As, I suspect, would a lot of people. There was a joke going around about some angel accidentally scheduling a decade's worth of history into that single year, and it seemed reasonably apt. Let's just hope 2020 wasn't being dished up as a sort of entrée to 2021. Still, on a personal level, things could have been a lot worse. Had the luxury of taking six months off for chemo, both financially and with work's blessing, with plenty of support from friends and family. Now I am, at least preliminarily, in remission (though not counting chickens etc. until I've a few more test cycles under my belt) and back at work in an industry which is, for now at least, fairly stable. Touch wood. Sounds like there should be plenty
Eclipsed
So, it finally happened: I hit the wrong button and wound up on Eclipse. Now, these days I try not to be instantly mad at change and, honestly, having given myself a half hour or so to rearrange my home page and get used to it, the actual look isn't too bad. I don't mind it.
The actual functionality on the other hand... bloody hell what a mess. Inputs are slow and laggy, assuming it recognises your inputs at all. Input responses are inconsistent, particularly on mobile and touch devices. Basically it's just not a pleasant experience right now.
The bit that ultimately ended in me switching back to the old site though was trying to schedule a
2019 - The Year Just Gone
There's a tag going around Twitter at the moment which asks you to pick four of your favourite bits of work for the year. It goes around every year, but trying to select four drawings for 2019 I couldn't help but have the thought that I've not had a great year for getting anything polished done. Yes, the Monday Musings have been consistent, but anything coloured and polished... not so much. In some respects that was a little disappointing, but the reality is that this had definitely been a more work/career focused time for me. On that note though, things I'm going to use as excuses:

I haven't tried the pacer, but I recently tried out the kuru toga, and it sucks. It's made for drafting so I don't press hard enough for the lead rotating mechanism to kick in. I tried to adjust to it, but pressing down so hard was weird.
