Description
NAME: Lt. Natalie "NAT" Boone
AGE: 19 years (2015)
POSTING: 1st Bi-pedal Armored Division (B.A.D)
ROLE: BWP-20 pilot and Arse-Kicker In Residence
Yep, it's Nat, in 3D. I had some Super Sculpey left over from a uni assignment and, seeing as how it costs about a gazillion dollars per gram, it seemed a waste to let it just sit there... so I tried my hand at making a Figurine. Only my second time using Sculpey and first ever doing a complex object/figure. Yes, there are screw-ups and mistakes all over the place (and yes, I am aware she is way over-busted... and for once it wasn't on purpose either) For what is basically the first serious attempt at 3D work I don't think she came out too bad.
The painted finish is Humbrol Enamels with a clear matt lacquer over the top, most of which I had left over from my R/C days.... upside of that is that she's now safe against methanol based fuels up to 15% nitro with a finish that is "perfect for that scale warbird appearance"
The sunnies are thin wire with some old film negatives cut out for lenses. The base was hacked off an old stair-tread and treated with oil and wet/dry. It's hardwood, so weighs a ton as well. The working base I had was from the same stair-tread, but is covered in epoxy, glue, paint and solder.
Total time spent? No clue. But while working on her I watched: The entirety of FLCL, Serenity (twice), Resident Evil, Nadesico Movie, the entirety of Firefly and 2 disks of Nadesico the series... do the math yourselves.
Things I learnt:
- Coat-hanger wire doesn't make a good base.
- Blowtorches are fun.
- Wood shrinks in the oven.
- Sculpey doesn't respond very well to being hit with a hammer.
- Sun-glasses; total bitch to make.
- I suck at mixing paint.
Ok, I've ranted enough. Thoughts?

She looks really nice to me. Have you sculpted any more of the BAD unit?
Great Work!
