Ever feel like you're living in an entirely different world to the rest of the planet?

*** *** ***

Ok, so I've been slowly working on this since mid-late January, just adding a bit here and there. Special props have to go to :icontakara13: , who continually allowed me to bounce ideas off her and for the masses of support she levelled in this direction and also to :iconenigmaticspirit: , who built and set up the new computer that allowed me to finish this after my old one decided it didn't want to deal with that many layers. Thanks mates.

Daily Deviation, 2008-04-12

Daily DeviationHeadspace by *wraith11 is such a unique concept and is executed beautifully! The use of bright colors in the dream world make it pop out at you and looks so appealing against the drab world of reality. The details found through out this piece will have you looking at it for hours and you will honestly want to try to find all the hidden goodies located in this. Personally, I am a fan of the floating palace. (Suggested by *takara13 and Featured by `Damaged927)

Wow, the backgrounds are really detailed; how do you get that stuff to come out?

Is it like...

The shading and use of shadows?
Wow, that is really amazing Wes! I love it. and boy do I know how that feels. ;p

How do you mean? Like how to find where shadows should go? (which is a matter of drawing a light direction arrow... then mostly ignoring it and guessing) or how the shadow rendering was done.

In the latter case it was a base layer, then two dark layers, two light layers and a highlights layer for the dull background. The light had a base, a dark shadows layer, then a single dark layer, a single light layer (used with a 50% opacity brush), a highlights layer and an adjustments layer where I could darken or lighten areas. There's also a few photoshop filters used to create more of a contrast between the two backgrounds.

wow that's really great. love the juxtaposition of the grey, bland real world with the brightly coloured fantasy world. awesome.

I am grounded, I am humbled, I am one with everything.
.... wow!

Excellent use of those many layers!

You've really outdone yourself here in terms of detail! Superb work!

Great work, mate.

Thanks mate.
Yeah, I like backgrounds too :D
