Went to check the mailbox today, and there was a little red slip in there saying I had mail to collect. Inside the brown box from Hong Kong was a 1/6 Athena Glory, the singer/undine from Aria... thank you eBay.
Anyway, picked up a daylight lamp at the same time (it'll be useful come uni time anyway) and had a fiddle with lighting. It's a bit bright so I'll probably have to make up some sort of reflector for it.
The colours in this are a bit scew-wiff, but such as life.
For those interested, this [link] is what I currently use to light this stuff.
Maa? No, Maa's at her feet... you just can't see him, her... it? No, I just think Athena's perpetually sad/worried looking
Yeah, it was a pre-painted figurine, I think she's made by Solid Works. They do all the undines... so Akira's in the mail too When I do paint figures though I use Humbrol and Tamiya enamels, if only because I've got a large collection of them left over from painting bombers, cars and stuff The last figurine I made also got a spray of SuperKote satin/clear ( "perfect for that scale warbird finish" ), which not only nicely flattened the colours but also had the added upshot that it made her proof against water and all methanol based fuels up to 15% nitro
You make/paint figurines or models yourself?

I usually use Tamiya acrylics, hehe, ya ton left over from my older models.
Yup, I pre-order packages from Tokyo Marui for the rarer finds (extremely expensive though) and there are also some shops here where I can buy paint and the easier-to-find military stuff.
I do better with tanks, aircraft and ships than people, `coz I've tried my hand at anime models and it was a complete disaster.
Bought a model from a friend of mine when I was still in high school, an unpainted Ifurita (killer android from El Hazard). Something must've gone wrong with the mixture and bang, I screwed up her colors. Nothing like the original. >.< I got a wierd mix of red and violet hair with her uniform getting more gray and black than white and black. I basically gave up on painting people after that.
Do you mix your colors and try to modify the hue? Or do you just use the colors they have?
Give me dull grays, urban and jungle camo as well as egg-blue fighter paint anytime

Heh, well I've only ever tried painting a person once... and that was the sculpey figure of Nat I did awhile back. Quickly came to the conclusion that you at least need to be able to airbrush to get a decent finish And yes, I did try mixing paint at the same time... utter disaster. I must have wasted about 3 tins on that
You tried Hobby Link Japan at all for buying and pre-ordering by any chance? They're usually reasonably priced on anime stuff, not to sure what they're like on military models though.

By the way, did you get it painted? If not, what acrylics do you use?
